At the moment, the rescue is being funded largely out of our own pockets, with the occasional fundraiser helping to cover emergency expenses. We have continued to do everything we can to care for the horses who need us, but this simply isn’t sustainable as the number of horses we are being asked to take on continues to grow.
Our biggest ongoing expense is food. Hay and hard feed are essential to keeping our horses healthy, and we desperately need help to keep up with these costs. There are several ways you can help us provide the food our horses need.
Buy-A-Bale and Hard feed
One of the most direct ways to help is to Buy-A-Bale.
Our hay provider from La Era Hay supplies us with 500kg bales for €167 per bale. Once enough bales have been purchased to fill a lorry (32 bales), they are delivered directly to the rescue.
A single 500kg bale lasts our rescue approximately seven days, making every bale a real and practical contribution towards keeping our horses fed. If you would like to buy a bale for the horses, you can do so directly through our hay provider.
€167 = one 500kg bale of hay = approximately one week’s hay for the rescue.
Along side the hay we currently feed St. Hippolyt Natur Solo, Pavo Ease & Excel, with speedibeet, alfalfa cubes, Equi-Haylage and Linseed oil. The horses’ diets are adapted to their individual needs, because every horse that comes into our care is different.

Donate
You can also make a direct donation to help us cover the everyday costs of feeding and caring for the horses. Donations can be sent directly to our rescue bank account or purchased from the links (attached to each products name) and will go towards essential expenses, particularly hay and hard feed.
Our Amazon Wishlist
Sometimes the things a rescue needs aren’t as obvious as hay and feed. We also have an Amazon Wishlist containing essential items that can be purchased and sent directly to us.
Every item, however small, helps us reduce the day-to-day costs of running the rescue and means that more of our resources can go directly towards the horses.
Volunteer With Us
If you would rather give your time than money, you can also volunteer at the rescue. We don’t currently have accommodation available for volunteers to stay, although establishing somewhere for volunteers to stay is something we hope to achieve in the near future.
For now, volunteers can join us for morning and evening shifts, helping with the everyday care of the horses. This includes feeding, watering, mucking out and grooming, as well as spending some quieter time with the horses during snack time. Volunteering isn’t just about getting jobs done. The time spent handling, grooming and simply being around the horses is also valuable to them.

Sponsor a Horse
Every horse in our care needs a sponsor.
Sponsoring a horse is a great way to make a regular contribution while getting to know one of the horses who has found their way to EquiScire. Sponsorship packages start from €30 per month, helping us towards the ongoing costs of food, care and keeping that horse safe and comfortable.
Your sponsorship helps provide something every rescue horse needs: security and consistency.
Every Contribution Matters
EquiScire has continued because we have been willing to put our own resources into the horses who need us. But we cannot continue carrying the full cost alone, particularly as more horses are being referred to us and asking for help.
We don’t want to turn away a horse simply because we cannot afford to feed another mouth.
Whether you buy a bale, sponsor a horse, donate towards feed, purchase something from our wishlist or volunteer your time, you are helping us keep the rescue running and the horses in our care fed, safe and well looked after.
Every bale, every donation, every hour and every act of support makes a difference.
